Scan the selection to note that it has two parts: a poem called “The Usher” and two movie posters. Look at the movie posters, The Blob and The Birds. 

Hitchcock films were very popular for their terror factor. Hitchcock has other popular films like Psycho, Vertigo, and Rear Window.

Read the selection independently, identifying words the author chose to improve the effectiveness of his poem, and words used in the movie posters to add to their “scary” factor.

Recall what alliteration is. Alliteration- the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
